Plot:
Mazu was born different from others. She didn't cry or make a fuss, and she was protected by her Yuanshen. When the jellyfish monster from the sea wanted to harm the newly born Mo Niang, her Yuanshen appeared and drove the jellyfish monster away. During the fight, the jellyfish monster knocked down the candlestick and ignited the curtains. Although her family put out the fire immediately, Mo Niang was still frightened and began to fear fire. Mo Niang was smart and kind since she was a child. She liked to help others and was also concerned about the hard life of fishermen. When she followed her parents to the temple to burn incense at the age of twelve, she received guidance from Guanyin Bodhisattva and worshipped Xiandao Xuantong as her teacher to learn magic. On the way to the mountains to learn skills, Mo Niang met the water spirit Qianliyan and the gold spirit Shunfenger who wanted to take Mo Niang back as their daughter-in-law. During the escape, Mo Niang was frightened and fainted. Fortunately, her Yuanshen appeared immediately and did not let them succeed. She subdued and shrunk the two and followed Mo Niang to become her protector. While learning magic from Xuantong, Mo Niang worked very hard, but because she was afraid of fire, she avoided practicing any magic related to fire, which made it impossible to perfect the Samadhi Fire of the four magics of wind, fire, thunder and lightning, and also laid hidden dangers for the future. One day, her brother Hongyi lost his way in the wild and broke his foot. While looking for her brother, Mo Niang and her father discovered the importance of a little light in the dark night to identify the direction. From then on, she did her best to help the returning fishing boats identify the direction on the coast without fear of wind, rain and darkness, and lit lights to guide them home, which greatly helped the fishermen in the village. One day, Mo Niang's father and brother went out to sea to help Mo Niang's eldest sister prepare for her dowry. As a result, the fishing boat encountered a strong wind and waves on the way back at night and got lost in the dark sea. Mo Niang used magic to make her soul leave her body to help her brother steer the ship, but her mother, who was unaware of the situation, interrupted her because she was worried that Mo Niang would fall into a nightmare, causing her brother to unfortunately fall into the water and die. In order to help her father and other fishing boats trapped at sea to identify the direction, Mo Niang set fire to the firewood room in her backyard as a light for fishing boats to identify the direction, but the three-headed monster that created the storm laid a dark cloud barrier, so that the trapped ships could not see the fire. Only the Samadhi Fire could penetrate the barrier, but Mo Niang was afraid of fire and did not practice well, so she could not use it. At the critical moment, Xuan Tong sacrificed himself to guide Mo Niang and finally helped her ignite the Samadhi Fire. Mo Niang used wind, fire, thunder and lightning spells to successfully subdue the three-headed monster and guide the fishing boats back to the port, saving the fishermen and her father. However, she lost her life due to overwork in the process of subduing the monster. After Mo Niang died, her soul could not stay in the human world for too long. Mo Niang's soul gradually became transparent, which also meant that she was about to leave. When she was about to ascend to heaven, the three-headed monster controlled the Dragon King to launch a large-scale attack on humans. Mo Niang used all her spells to quell the disaster, but she also disappeared. The compassionate Guanyin Bodhisattva liberated Mo Niang's soul and helped her to become an immortal, the patron saint of mankind at sea - Mazu.
