The play tells the story of Linghu Chong, the eldest disciple of Huashan Sect, who accidentally met Qu Yang and Liu Zhengfeng and got the music score of "Swordsman". He also accidentally learned the essence of swordsmanship of the Five Mountains Sects, but was suspected and expelled from the sect by his master Yue Buqun. After being alienated by Yue Lingshan, whom he had loved since childhood, he met and fell in love with Ren Yingying, the Saint of the Demon Sect, while traveling around the world. In the end, when Yue Buqun's ambition was exposed, Linghu Chong took action to stop the war, and retired from the world with Ren Yingying, playing "Swordsman" together.
