Matt Smith and John Lithgow have joined Netflix's series The Crown, playing Prince Philip and Churchill respectively. The series was written by Peter Morgan, the screenwriter of The Queen, and the first episode was directed by Stephen Daldry, the director of The Hours. It tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II and Churchill reshaping Britain after World War II. Claire Foy was previously confirmed to play Queen Elizabeth II.
